Strawberry Chia Jam

Strawberry Chia Jam is an excellent substitute for store bought jellies and jams. It is highly nutritious, easy to make, and without all of the extra sugar!

Strawberries in the summer are one of my favorite things! Not only do they taste great, they also have numerous health benefits!

This recipe comes together in just a few minutes and it’s super easy to make. I always thought that making homemade jam would be complicated, but it’s definitely not!

It’s not just limited to strawberries either! You can make it with any berry or fruit you like! Blueberries, blackberries, peaches, apples, a combination of fruit/berries! The possibilities are endless! 🙂


Health Benefits of Strawberry Chia Jam

What’s Inside Strawberry Chia Jam?

  • Strawberries (or any other berries or fruit you would like!)
  • Chia Seeds
  • Lemon Juice
  • Maple Syrup

How to Make:

  • Heat a medium saucepan on medium high.
  • Once hot, add in strawberries and cook until they start to break down. At this point you can use a fork or a potato masher to break them down further until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Add in the lemon juice and chia seeds.
  • Continue cooking until the strawberry mixture just comes to a boil, stirring most of the time. Cook for 1 more minute, just until it starts to thicken. It will thicken further while cooling off.
  • Once finished cooking, add in sweetener of choice- maple syrup, honey, or regular sugar if desired.
  • Let cool so it can thicken- about 10-15 minutes.
  • Can use now, or continue to cool inside of refrigerator.
  • Lasts up to 1 week.

A healthier, homemade Strawberry Jam

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of Strawberries, sliced into quarters
  • 2 tbsp of Chia Seeds
  • 3 tsp Lemon Juice
  • Maple Syrup, honey, or cane sugar to taste

Instructions

  1. Let a medium saucepan heat up over medium high heat.
  2. Place the cut strawberries into the pan and cook until they are starting to break down.
  3. At this point you can use either a potato masher or a fork to break them down further, until you reach the desired consistency.
  4. Mix the chia seeds and lemon juice in.
  5. Let it just come to a boil while stirring continuously. 
  6. Keep on stirring continuously, and let cook about 1 more minute, just until it starts to thicken. It will thicken further while it’s cooling off, so don’t let it get too thick.
  7. Take off heat and let it sit about 10-15 minutes, until it thickens.
  8. Can use immediately or it can be transferred to refrigerator for up to a week.
